Floods hit the region of Algiers, Algeria on November 9th 2021. Heavy rain throughout the day caused flooding, with roads being blocked as streets became unsafe, causing gridlocks. Sewers emitted water, causing streets to become filled with sewage. Flooding was particularly severe in the suburb of Bologhine. Landslides were reported, with a house collapsing due to instability of the terrain. The rains follow a hot summer, with droughts causing hardening of the ground, and increasing the severity of floods. Weather warnings have now been removed, as residents assess the damage caused.
