It has recently been reported by several media outlets that Angola has awarded a contract for the construction of the country’s very first motorway.
Furthermore, the winning firm is the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRCB), a subsidiary of China Communications.
According to Carlos dos Santos, Angola’s minister of public works, the two parties have already signed a memorandum of understanding regarding the project.
The motorway was initially approved back in 2020 and includes 1,400 kilometers (870 miles) of roadwork, stretching from southern Angola’s province of Cunene to the provinces of Zaire and Cabinda in the country’s north.
In addition to this, the motorway is expected to enhance connectivity with neighboring nations such as Namibia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
As for its construction, it is going to be a public-private partnership and the total cost is expected to reach $2.5 billion (€2.6 billion).
According to Mr. dos Santos, the motorway’s feasibility studies are expected to be finalized by mid to end 2025, while construction is expected to commence later that year or early in 2026.
Finally, no information is currently available regarding the project’s estimated completion date.
