Kazakhstan’s first automobile tunnel set for completion in 2024

Kazakhstan’s Minister of Transport, Marat Karabayerv, stated that the country’s first road tunnel is going to be completed by the end of the year.

Furthermore, the twin tunnel is going to measure 840 meters in length, while it will be crossing through the Shakpak Baba Pass, and each tunnel is going to consist of two lanes.

It has been made known that all concrete, asphalt and lighting work regarding the tunnel’s construction has been completed.

The next steps before delivering the project include laying gas pipes, and installing video surveillance, ventilation and fire protection equipment.

Tolegen Abdullin, spokesperson for the Kazakh Ministry of Transport highlighted that the project will be integrated into the main part of the Western Europe-Western China International Transit Corridor.

It was also announced that another major transportation project is going to be delivered by the end of the year in Kazakhstan, that being a 1,316-meter-long, two-lane bridge over the Bukhtarma Reservoir, which is 81% complete.

Finally, the country has also been committed to investing in its transportation infrastructure by restoring and reconstructing a total of 12,000 kilometers of highways.
