According to reports, the collapse was caused by a ruptured sewage pipe which flooded the station. "ACCIONA engineering identified that the problem was with a collector [of the sewage system] they hit a collector of Sabesp (Sao Paulo waste management company)," said Joao Doria, Governor of Sao Paulo. A large crater opened on the highway as a result of the collapse, temporarily halting traffic. No casualties were reported but two workers required medical attention after coming in contact with sewage water.
