Professor Lymon C. Reese had a 33-year career at UT Austin, conducting pioneering work in performing field studies with instrumented piles and drilled shafts. Elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 1975, he developed analytical methods now widely used in the design of deep foundations. Professor Reese was the ASCE Karl Terzaghi lecturer in 1976. The full title of his lecture was "Geoprofessionals as Leaders in Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation." Rudy Bonaparte is a Senior Principal Engineer based in Georgia with more than 40 years of professional experience focused on the areas of: geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering; contCEO of Geosyntec for 20 years and now serves as Chairman of Geosyntec's Board of Directors. Examples of Rudy's practice experience include serving as: design engineer-of-record for a state-of-the-art LLR waste facility for the U.S. Department of Energy; design engineer-of-record for several power utility coal combustion residual (CCR) surface impoundment closures; feasibility study lead for the Berry's Creek Study Area (BCSA) contaminated sediment Superfund site and project director for the remedial design; design engineer-of-record for three major Superfund remediation projects; core project team member for the seismic hazard evaluation for siting of a State of Alaska, Anchorage Office Complex and for evaluation of the seismic stability of several embankment dams.
