Geo-Structures 2024 preview #2: Heinzl on the Mount Washington Landslide Remediation
Lecture Other Geotechnical Geo-Structures is a one of a kind specialty conference. It'll bring together practitioners, researchers, academics, and constructors to share knowledge and experience relating to the current state of practice for designing and constructing earth retaining structures in a sustainable manner. Our second conference preview will be presented Thursday, October 10, at 2pm ET. Brian Heinzl of Gannett Fleming will present on the Mount Washington slide remediation project.
The Mt. Washington Landslide Mitigation project is a City of Pittsburgh Department of Mobility and Infrastructure (DOMI) lead effort with the support of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) to preemptively secure the hillsides of Mt. Washington to minimize the prozl is a Geotechnical Project Manager for Gannett Fleming, Inc. in the Pittsburgh Pa. office. He is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering in 1989. Mr. Heinzl holds a Professional Engineer’s license in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He has spent much of his 30year professional career performing geotechnical investigations and designs for various clients throughout Western Pennsylvania. Over the last decade, his efforts have been focused on design and construction of landslide repairs throughout the Pittsburgh Area, assisting DOTs, other public agencies, and contractors with maintenance and improvement of the existing transportation infrastructure. Mr. Heinzl has collaborated on several technical papers and presentations resulting from his landslide stabilization experiences. Mr. Heinzl is an active member of ASCE and ESWP. He currently serves on the ASCE Pittsburgh Section Board of Directors as the Chairperson of the Educational Outreach Committee and is a past Chairperson of the ASCE Pittsburgh Section Geo-Institute.
