Tiber-Guadalupe Platform to Deliver 80,000 Barrels Per Day by 2030 Strengthening U.S. Gulf Offshore Development

BP has approved the Tiber-Guadalupe project in the Gulf of America, advancing a $5 billion offshore development that underscores the region’s importance in global energy supply. The project involves a floating production platform with a design capacity of 80,000 barrels of oil per day. It includes six wells in the Tiber field and a two-well tieback from the Guadalupe field, with production targeted for 2030.

The development is fully integrated into a long-term strategy to expand offshore capacity, with Tiber-Guadalupe and the related Kaskida project expected to contribute more than 400,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day from the Gulf by the end of the decade. Together, they form part of a $10 billion investment program in the Paleogene formation.

The Tiber-Guadalupe project is located in the Keathley Canyon, approximately 300 miles southwest of New Orleans, within one of the Gulf’s most technically challenging zones. The reservoirs lie in the Paleogene sequence, known for its ultra-deepwater high-pressure conditions. The project will utilize technology capable of handling pressures up to 20,000 psi, requiring reinforced subsea equipment, larger drilling rigs, and specialized well casing designs.

By leveraging over 85% of the design used for the Kaskida platform, cost efficiency and operational standardization are being prioritized. This approach is projected to reduce development costs by around $3 per barrel compared to earlier deepwater projects. Beyond the immediate production benefits, Tiber-Guadalupe highlights the continued evolution of engineering solutions in high-stress geological environments, where safe and reliable performance depends on precision design and advanced subsea technology.
