An earthquake (Mw 7.7) occurred on Tuesday in south-central Pakistan resulting in 400 deaths, many injuries and a new island!
The movement of the tectonic plates is the main reason of the quake associated with the Chaman fault, according to the USGS National Earthquake Information Center. Seismologists explain that this formation is a result of a ‘mud volcano’, a mixture of mud, water and sand. The soft materials make the island vulnerable to erosion from the sea, so it is likely to dissapear soon.
