The information in the international media is a bit sketchy, but what appears to be a huge landslide (see photo) claimed the life of construction workers as well as users of the roadway. Reportedly, construction workers were removing landslide debris from the roadway, when a larger landslide remobilized and the debris covered the construction workers, dozer operators, as well as citizens who were waiting behind the dozer to continue their trip on the roadway.
The landslide occurred in the Andes Mountains between the cities of Neiva and Florencia, in southwestern Colombia. The size of the landslide is large and concerns over potential subsequent movement of the landslide impeded rescue operations.
