Arizona Flooding Leaves Four Dead and Exposes Vulnerabilities in Mining Region Settlements

Severe flooding struck Arizona in late September 2025, leaving four people dead and prompting widespread emergency operations. The rural community of Globe, a 19th-century mining town located about 88 miles east of Phoenix, experienced the most severe impacts. Approximately 2.5 inches of rainfall fell in 24 hours, overwhelming local drainage and funnelling water rapidly through canyons into the downtown area. Residents were forced onto rooftops as floodwaters swept through streets, submerging vehicles and damaging infrastructure.

One of the first facilities affected was a propane distribution site, where floodwaters displaced nearly 1,000 residential-sized tanks into the town center. Emergency teams deployed hazmat crews to secure the scattered tanks, preventing potential ignition risks. Search-and-rescue operations continue, with authorities investigating reports of additional missing individuals.
