In its 51 years of history, the Colombian Geotechnical Society (CGS) has organized more than 65 events in the form of congresses, symposiums, seminars, conferences, forums, workshops, regional conferences that have fulfilled the mission of keeping the national and regional geotechnical community updated on the most recent advances in theories, calculation and design methods, laboratory tests, field tests and relevant case studies for the continuous improvement of professional practice and the development of research in the area of geotechnical engineering in Colombia.
Traditionally, the Geotechnical Seminars organized by the CGS have been the space for updating knowledge on various topics of the applied geotechnical speciality.
The First South American Geotechnical Seminar (I-SSAG) is dedicated to the topic of ``Evaluation and Management of Geotechnical Risks with Emphasis on the Effects of Climate Change''. It is intended to give relevance to this topic due to the very severe and frequent effects in the Andean and tropical regions of South America.
